Purpose

Mission Statement

The Green Horn Neurosurgery Foundation is focused on providing surgery for patients that cannot afford it whom reside in China, as well as training surgeons in new techniques in these disciplines in cooperation with neurosurgeon Dr. Tsz Lau, Dr. Zeguang Ren and other neurosurgeons from the University of South Florida as well as other surgeons in various specialties from the University of South Florida.

Initiative

The Green Horn Neurosurgery Foundation is partnering with hospitals in China, on accomplishing a major goal of the country: to improve access to healthcare and preventative education to health conditions focused on cranial and spine surgery as well as other specialties as needed.

Dr. Tsz Lau, M.D.

Tsz Lau, M.D., joined the medical staff of Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center in 2013. Dr. Lau obtained his medical degree with honors from the State University of New York, Buffalo, NY. He completed his neurological surgery training at the University of South Florida, where he also completed a fellowship in skull base cerebrovascular surgery. Dr. Lau is also a faculty member of the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine Neurosurgery Department, serving as an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery.

Dr. Lau is the recipient of numerous awards and honors during the course of his studies including Post Baccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) Fellowships Program from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD; Robin M. Bannerman Memorial Research Award from State University of New York, Buffalo, NY; Augustus McCravey Resident Clinical Award from the Southern Neurosurgical Society; and Best Epilepsy Paper Award from the Asian Epilepsy Surgery Congress, Hong Kong.

Dr. Zeguang Ren, M.D., Ph.D

Dr. Zeguang Ren, joined the Department of Neurosurgery, University of South Florida in 2014. Dr. Ren obtained his medical degree with honors from the Hebei Medical University in China in 1987, and PhD degree from Beijing Neurosurgical Institute/Tiantan Hospital in 2000. He did his neurosurgery residency in China and re-did his neurosurgery training at the University of Rochester, New York, where he also completed a fellowship incerebrovascular/endovascular neurosurgery. Dr. Ren is a faculty member of the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine Neurosurgery Department, serving as an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery.

Dr. Ren is the recipient of numerous awards and honors during the course of his training and practice. He has done many basic and clinical research and published numerous scientific papers, see his CV for detailed information.

About Zhao Qing

Zhàoqìng is a prefecture-level city of Guandong providence, People’s Republic of China and the southern districts and Sihui is considered part of the Pearl River Delta Region. It is well known for being a regional tourist hub, a medium-sized provincal “college town” as well as an up-and-coming manufacturing center. Residents from Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other nearby cities, as well as people from Hong Kong and Macau, are known to visit the city on weekend getaways and excursions. Its population was 3,918,467 at the 2010 census whom 1,232,462 lived in the built-up (or metro) area made of Duanzhou urban District and Gaoyao County largely being urbanized. Dinghu uran District is not yet conurbated. The main central city, excludding Seven Star Crags, is fairly flat, but thickly forested mountains lie just outside the city limits. Numerous rice paddies and aquaculture ponds are found on the outskirts of the city.
